IceIce by Linda Howard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maine at Christmastime. A lone woman, Lolly Helton, in an isolated house. A brewing ice storm. A pair of hopped-up methheads with rape, robbery, and homicide on their minds. A man Gabriel McQueen, on leave from the service, sent to check on his father’s distant neighbor who has fallen out of contact. , to make sure she is safe and sound. It’s a trip that Gabriel would rather not make, given the bitter winter weather-and the icy conditions that have always existed between him and Lolly. Arriving at Lolly’s home, he spots strangers through the window-one of them packing a weapon-and kicks into combat mode. Rescue achieved, they must depend on each other to endure the merciless forces of nature and evade the ruthless enemy out for their blood.

A classic Howard romantic adventure, it was an enjoyable read even though shorter than usual.
