Songs of Spring

May 8, 2014

pad2014-sSongs of spring
I sing to thee
Birds chirping
Peeping, twittering
From ground, shrubs, and trees
Claiming territory
Seeking mates
Gathering material
Building nests.

Leaves unfurling becoming
Festooning bushes and trees
Bulbs bursting forth
Sprouting shoots of grass
Expansive verdant greenness
Buds forming
Blossoms opening
Perfuming the air
Riotous new life.

This season’s crop
New born young
Scampering, capering, playing
Exploring, learning, growing
Regeneration of species
Mothers watch benevolently
Keeping wary eyes
Cocked for danger
In case rescue is needed.
