My Dad gave me the two best pieces of advice I’ve ever heard. I want to share them with you. They were: “Measure twice and cut once.” and “Always start with a plan and adjust as you go along.” These two pieces can be applied to almost every situation. More importantly my Dad lived his advice. He was a shining example of a practical, common sense person. Common sense gets a bad rap, people sneer at it, but I consider it one of the best qualities anyone can possess. It is in dangereously short supply these days. There are people out there doing whatever pops into their heads without considering the consequences. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, who hasn’t? I’ve followed my father’s example. I’ve gotten up, dusted myself off, tried to repair any damage I’ve caused, and gotten on with my life. My dad isn’t with us anymore, he died almost twenty-four years ago. I never thought to tell him how much I valued his words and deeds when he was alive. I hope that those of you who read this post consider his advice carefully. They are truly words to live by. Emily
