“The city is ruined, absolutely ruined!” Wailed Mayor Jones. “Our insurance policy doesn’t cover this kind of damage! We’ll be bankrupt! Billions in damages, deaths, and personal injuries! What the Mongols didn’t sack and burn the Dinosaur stampede crushed!” He was screaming at the top of his lungs and frothing slightly at his mouth when he finished.

The head of the Scientific Panel cleared his throat and spoke. “We have checked all the evidence carefully and determined that The Incident was caused by a rogue Time Bubble.” He calmly announced.

“What good is that? It still doesn’t count as an Act of God!”

“It wasn’t a natural event, it was caused by the Fairy’s.”

“What do gay people have to do with The Incident?” Jones asked puzzled.

“Not that kind of fairy. Fairy’s as in beings possessing Magical abilities. One of their spells went very, very wrong!”

“So what?”

“So you can sue them.”

“Sue the Fairy’s.” Jones said in wonderment.

“The Fairy’s are rolling in gold, it can belong to the City.”

An avid gleam came into Jones’s eyes. “Thank you Doctor,  thank you very much! You’ve saved the City!” He cried in fervent relief.

“Just doing my job, Mayor.” The scientist said modestly. He smiled smugly, imagining the looks of consternation on his colleagues faces when he presented definitive proof of the Fairy’s existence at the upcoming Associated News Conference. He would be famous! His name would go down in the history books as the man who proved Magic was real.

Thank you, I was inspired by Robert Asprin, but Terry Prachett is also wickedly funny.
