My grandmother was fond of the adage “time heals all wounds”. It’s true enough in its way. Either you recover or you die, thus making your pain a moot point. I sometimes envy cats their shorter attention spans. It has been 26 days since Bandit died and Selleck has already forgotten her. He no longer looks for her or calls her. He has relaxed and isn’t clinging frantically to my every move. I don’t think he’s ready for a new room-mate however. Yesterday a 3 month-old black and white kitten came up onto my deck and sat in front of the door. Selleck saw it. He jumped down on the floor and ran over to the door. He swatted the screen and hissed and growled at the kitten. He was three times the size of the kitten so it quite sensibly ran away. It’s too soon for a new cat anyway, I’m not ready yet. I’m still grieving. Emily
