It’s Independence Day! Happy Fourth of July! I learned something new yesterday when I was reading some of my favorite blogs. It is the most dangerous holiday in the United States for your pets. More pets go missing today in the USA than on any other day of the year! Animal shelters are overwhelmed by the number of animals they find after today. Keep your pets safe! Lock them into an escape proof room away from all the noise and commotion. Some dogs have injured themselves jumping out of windows in an effort to escape the fireworks. Don’t feed them Human food! Some of our foods are poisonous to our pets! Make sure they are wearing collars with up to date ID tags. Take a current photo of your pet in case it gets lost. Keep any outdoor pets in a cool, shady spot with lots of water to drink. Don’t let your dog over do the swimming. Dogs can drown or become seriously ill from swimming too much. Please think of the comfort and safety of your pets, they are part of your family too. Spread the word. Keep your pets safe! My two cats will be spending their evening shut in my bedroom. Their favorite blankie will be tucked under my bed. They can hide in comfort and safety while all the loud, banging fireworks are going off. Emily
